Windows Intune Step by Step Guide Part 1: Registration

Back to main menu

Part 1 of my Windows Intune Step by Step Guide describes how to sign up for an Intune subscription. In this example I have signed up for a 30 day trial subscription. You should do this if you are unsure and just wish to evaluate the service.

This is an extract from official Microsoft documentation:

"If your organization already has a Microsoft Online Services organization identifier (OrgID), it is essential that you click the Sign in option in this text and authenticate by using the Global Administrator account. This action will ensure that your Windows Intune trial links to your existing Microsoft Online Services account."

I have found this not to be the case. If you sign up for a trial using an existing Office 365 ID it can be quite awkward and time-consuming to transfer this into production after 30 days - you will probably need the assistance of Microsoft Intune Support. My Microsoft technical colleagues agree unofficially that it is better to set up a dummy trial and abandon it after 30 days. If you wish to subscribe after that period then you should use your existing Org ID to create a new subscription.

You can register for a trial here

Select "get your free 30-day trial"

Enter your details. Note that you will be required to choose a domain name in the format

yourdomain.onmicrosoft.com

The wizard checks availability of this domain before you can continue.

That's it. You are prompted to log onto the Intune Portal for the first time. You are also informed that your subscription details will be sent to you via email.

You are prompted to provide further information for later "password reset assistance"

This is the Windows Intune Acount Portal.
